Q: How did you first learn about Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northwest Ohio?
A: I first learned about RMHC Northwest Ohio in a very personal way. When I delivered my first premature baby, a nurse at the hospital introduced me to the Ronald McDonald House. It became our home for 12 weeks during a challenging period. The support, comfort, and sense of community the House provided were invaluable to me and my family.

Q: What inspired you to get involved with RMHC and join the board?
A: My experience with RMHC left a lasting impact on me. During one of the hardest times in my life, the House was a place of support and comfort. I felt such sense of gratitude for everything RMHC provided, and I knew I wanted to give back. Joining the board was a way for me to contribute to an organization that had done so much for my family and to help ensure other families receive the same support.

Q: What committees are you involved in at RMHC?
A: I am actively involved in the Family Services Committee.

Q: Do you have a personal story or experience that makes RMHC’s mission especially meaningful to you?
A: Absolutely. As I mentioned earlier, I stayed at the Ronald McDonald House for nearly 7 weeks with my first son and about 5 weeks with my second. Those experiences were profoundly emotional and challenging, but RMHC made it possible for me to stay close to my babies without the added stress of worrying about accommodations.

Q: Have you or someone close to you ever needed a place like RMHC? If so, how did that experience shape your perspective?
A: Yes, in addition to my own experiences, several of my friends have also stayed at Ronald McDonald Houses. Knowing how much it helped me and my friends has deepened my appreciation for RMHC’s mission.

Q: What’s your favorite part about being involved with RMHC?
A: My favorite part is knowing that we are alleviating some of the stress and burden families face during the most challenging times of their lives. It’s rewarding to know that our work helps create a supportive, comforting environment when families need it most.

Q: Is there a specific RMHC program or initiative that resonates with you the most?
A: I really value the events that bring families together, such as NICU reunions. These gatherings offer families a chance to connect, reflect on their journeys, and celebrate milestones.

Q: What is one memory or moment with RMHC that has stood out to you?
A: During my stay, I passed a sign by the elevator on the third floor multiple times a day. It read, “Begin each day with a grateful heart.” That simple message became a daily reminder for me to focus on gratitude, even in the face of uncertainty and fear. After leaving the House, I bought a similar sign, which now hangs in my bathroom as a constant reminder to appreciate the present and embrace each day with thankfulness.

Q: As a board member, what do you hope to bring to RMHC?
A: I hope to bring a family-centered perspective to the board. Having experienced the House’s impact firsthand, I want to ensure that the voices and needs of the families we serve remain at the forefront of our decisions.

Q: What do you think people should know about RMHC that they may not already realize?
A: One thing many people don’t realize is that there is no required donation to stay at the Ronald McDonald House, and there are no income restrictions. RMHC is truly here to support all families, regardless of their financial situation, during times of medical crisis.

Q: How do you see RMHC evolving or growing in the future?
A: I see RMHC expanding its donor base beyond Lucas County to ensure long-term sustainability. Growth in this area will help us continue to provide exceptional services to families from all over the region.

Q: If you had to describe RMHC in three words, what would they be?
A: Welcoming. Comfortable. Home.
