Q & A with Delaney

Prior to interning at Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northwest Ohio, what knowledge did you have of our organization?

I was unsure of what RMHC was at first, but as I learned about the organization and its mission, I fell in love with it! A professor at BGSU, Stephanie Blessing, set up a program for students called “Developing Connections” where we were able to meet with organizations and interview with them on the spot. When I met Wendy and Traci with RMHC, I could tell it was a great organization, and I wanted to do my senior internship with them.

What made you want to intern with Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northwest Ohio?

I always have wanted to work with kids and families. Since I have a minor in Child-Life, I knew that working in a hospital is a future goal of mine. RMHC of Northwest Ohio felt like a perfect fit. Now as I’ve been interning here at RMHC, I’ve learned how the House gives back, how the community gives back, and it feels good to work at an organization like this.

What projects will you be working on as an Operations Intern?

As an Operations Intern, some projects that I will be working on include: improving our Wellness Area, creating a positive message board, supporting our Family Services Managers and volunteers, maintaining the Hospitality Suite at Ebeid Children’s, and coordinating special programs. An example of a special program and cool project that I’m working on is bringing Hazel the Therapy Dog to our House. Hazel will be here for families, making them feel special, and I created activities for families to do with Hazel.

Have there been any staff members or volunteers that have made an impact on you?

Yes, having Wendy as my boss has been great. I’ve worked really closely with her (Wendy), and I have learned a lot. Also, Grace, who volunteers on Monday and Wednesday, has been awesome. She (Grace) has an infectious-positive attitude, and you can tell she loves to give back to the community. Everyone I’ve worked with has been awesome, and I am enjoying my internship at RMHC.
