Our Relationship with McDonald’s
How It Started
Ronald McDonald House Charities have been in partnership with McDonalds since 1974 when the Philadelphia Eagles tight-end, Fred Hill and his wife noticed a need in the community when their child was hospitalized. After spending several nights sleeping on benches and eating out of vending machines alongside other parents. Many families had nowhere to stay while family members received care.
Mr. Hill decided it was time for a change. He rallied his teammates to raise funds in partnership with McDonalds, for families in these situations to have a place to stay. This started the movement of what eventually was to become The Ronald McDonald House Charities.
Our founding partner McDonald’s has made a tremendous impact for families staying at RMHC of NW Ohio. RMHC is McDonald’s Charity of Choice. Together with their customers, McDonald’s is making a difference for the families staying at Ronald McDonald House Charities.
Every time you visit McDonald’s, you can support RMHC by choosing to Round-Up for RMHC when you place your order on the kiosk or ask the crew to Round-Up your order to the nearest dollar. You may also drop spare change in any of the RMHC Donation Boxes in restaurants or drive-thru.
Additionally, McDonald’s supports RMHC in the following ways:
- Shamrock Shake sales
- Happy Meal sales
- Coca-Cola soft drink sleeves
- Donations per pound of French Fry sales
- Monetary donations and event sponsorship
Event and Volunteer Support
The owners, operators and employees are always there to provide helping hands in the House and at our events. Throughout the year, McDonald’s employees and owner/operators volunteer at Ronald McDonald House Charities and at our events.
Recently, local McDonald’s owners and operators put on the “FORE the House Golf Outing” raising over $111,000 for RMHC of NW Ohio.
